About Emma

emma_247Emma's love of all things natural began at an early age when she decided to become a veterinarian (along with all of her seven year old girlfriends). At the tender age of 16, she had a change of mind in relation to her profession and decided that being a florist would be more fun. After a stint of flower filled work experience that too was deemed as not the ideal job. So what does a young Australian girl do when she is trying to find her ideal job? Why travel the world in search of it of course!

This adventuring across Asia, England, France, Austria, Switzerland and Italy led Emma to her final destination of Greece. On the surmise of visiting her family on the magical island if Ithaca, she found what she was looking for. After spending many years traveling between Ithaca and Australia the mystical profession finally revealed itself.

After watching the old people of the villages and hearing their stories, Emma was inspired to find out how they had so much energy. Their eyes would shine, they would dance all night at the village festivals, carry bundles of wood from the mountains and generally put the young kids to shame. How did they do it? After much observance and listening, it became clear. They ate simply, often what they grew themselves, they drank water from the local spring, they used the plants around them as medicine and lived in a pristine environment free of pollution.

So she returned to Australia and decided that she had finally discovered her ideal job – she became a naturopath! Emma now combines the experience of traditional medicine along with the scientific information of modern medicine.

In 2005 Emma went to Mumbai, India to study homeopathy with the masters. This involved a placement in a mission hospital and intensive training in a new method of homeopathic prescribing that is being pioneered by doctors in India. Apart from having an incredibly humbling experience, she returned home only to become very ill. There was no medical treatment and rest was advised with a considerable recovery time expected. So it was a perfect opportunity for Emma to treat herself with homeopathy, herbal medicine and anything else in her armory! To her GPs absolute amazement, her blood tests were normal within two weeks. It is with this passion and belief in natural therapies that Emma enthusiastically aims to empower and educate her patients to reach their optimal level of health and vitality.

Emma specialises in the fields of infertility, miscarriage prevention, pregnancy, IVF support, HypnoBirthing and detox diets. She also consults with patients looking for more generalised naturopath treatment for conditions such as poor immunity, bloating, fatigue,  weight loss and poor energy.

Emma’s Philosophy

Naturopathic medicine has a solid and traditional base in philosophy. The following seven principles are the foundations of Health Equals Vitality.

  1. First do no harm ( primum no nocere) - Naturopaths seek to do no harm with medical treatment by employing safe and effective natural therapies
  2. Nature has healing powers ( vis medicatrix naturae) - Naturopaths believe that the body has considerable power to heal itself. It is the role of the naturopath to facilitate and enhance this process with the aide of natural non toxic therapies
  3. Identify and treat the cause  (tolle causum)  - Naturopaths are trained to seek and treat the underlying cause of a disease rather than simply suppressing the symptoms. Symptoms are viewed as an expression of the body's attempt to heal while the causes can spring from the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels
  4. Treat the whole person - Naturopaths are trained to view an individual as a whole composed of a complex set of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social factors
  5. The naturopath is a teacher - Naturopaths are teachers, educating, empowering and motivating patients to assume more personal responsibility for their health by adopting a healthy attitude, lifestyle and diet
  6. Prevention is the best cure - Naturopaths are preventative medicine specialists. Prevention of disease is accomplished through education and encouraging life habits that support health and prevent disease
  7. Establish health and wellness - the primary goals of the naturopath are to establish and maintain optimum health and promote wellness
  8. While “health” is defined as the state of optimal physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being, “wellness” is defined as a state of health characterised by a positive emotional state. A naturopath strives to increase the patient's level of wellness, regardless of the level of health or disease.

4 Aspects of Health

Along with these philosophical principles, there are four aspects of health that must always be part of any treatment protocol.

  1. Bodily Health and Wholeness
To ensure that the physical body has the correct nutritional and appropriate healing support for any ills it may be experiencing
  2. Emotional Wellbeing
To ensure a well rounded life in which you can nurture and be nurtured and fully appreciate the human condition
  3. Mental Vision and Perspective
To help create a frame of mind in which you can find your centre, enabling you to
make choices from that centre, not from the stance of a victim Spiritual openness To ensure vitality in whatever form works for each individual
  4. Spiritual Openness
To ensure vitality in whatever form works for each individual
